Wood Pellets Production Using The Right Wood Pellet Mill Wood pellets are a modern and efficient renewable energy source which are used for heat generate on a large and small scale. Wood pellets are now also been used to generate electricity in power plants, as well as developments on smaller generators for homes and business. Wood pellet fuel is popular. This indicates how crucial wood pellets will be in the next couple of decades for energy generation. This has therefore led to a huge increase in interest in how wood pellets are made and the pellet production process. Now at first sight, how a pellet is made may appear very simple. There are various pieces of equipment used, with the central piece of equipment been the pellet mill. The pellet mill is comprised of a die and series of rollers, as you can see from the images to the right. Material enters the pellet mill and is compressed through the die by the rollers, simple right? Wrong, the process is only that simple if you have prepared the raw material correctly and the pellet mill has been setup correctly. However, many people purchase a pellet mill, throw in some sawdust and expect to see a perfect wood pellet every time, and it just isn't like that. There are various aspects which effect the pellet production process, with two core elements been moisture and heat. When you make a pellet you are essentially melting the wood and reforming it into pellet shape, and it then cools and forms a hard pellet. You need enough heat to melt the wood and enough moisture to lubricate the process. Too much or too little of either will cause issues. However, the pellet mill is also key, and not every pellet mill is up to the job. Wood pellets are a hard material to process. Please click below for our videos. |
